A woman caused injury to a police officer by smashing a cup over his head while he was arresting her boyfriend.
Andria Stuart, 37, and Shaun Bilton, 32, assaulted three police officers between them at the latter’s mother’s home in Caerphilly on November 6 last year.
Police were called to the property at 12.11am by a neighbour and they spoke to Bilton whose mother said she no longer wanted him in the house.
During the conversation Bilton ran towards police sergeant Phillips and “jumped him” which led to two officers, PC Gay and PC James, taking him to the floor.
A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday heard that Bilton kicked out at the officers as he was arrested and was described as “aggressive and argumentative”.
Prosecutor Laura Shepherd said: “While this was going on Ms Stuart hit PS Phillips over the head with a cup which smashed and caused injury to his head. He received a two-inch laceration to the head which required stitches.”
Both defendants were arrested and while in custody at Ystrad Mynach police station Bilton urinated in his cell causing damage.
Stuart, of Heol Tir Gibbon, Caerphilly, later pleaded guilty to wounding and assaulting an emergency worker and Bilton, of Heol Cae Maen, pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker, resisting arrest, and criminal damage.

Julia Cox, representing Bilton, admitted her client had a poor record for violence against police officers. In mitigation she said the defendant suffered from PTSD after sustaining burns to 90% of his body during a gas explosion and used alcohol as a means of coping.
Mark Davies, representing Stuart, said she was initially trying to placate the situation and didn’t get physically involved until assaulting PS Phillips with the cup. He said the defendant previously had a drug habit and had previous convictions for shoplifting but had been largely clean for a number of years.
Sentencing, Judge DJ Hale said: “The police were just doing their job largely in a good-natured way and then you chose to hit one of them over the head with a cup causing him injury, stitches, and bleeding.”
Bilton was sentenced to 32 weeks imprisonment and Stuart was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment.
