A woman was punched on her way into a Tesco supermarket as a man tried to steal her bag.
The incident happened on Wednesday evening as she was walking through the car park at the Tesco store in Neath Abbey Road, Neath.
While heading towards the supermarket, a man grabbed the woman from behind and punched her before trying to take her bag.
A member of the public managed to grab the man before he ran away empty-handed.
Officers from South Wales Police are appealing for the man who helped the woman during the incident to contact them.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “We are appealing for a man who helped an attempted robbery victim in the car park of Tesco in Neath Abbey Road, Neath, yesterday evening to please contact us.
“The woman was walking to the store across the car park when a man grabbed her from behind and punched her and tried to take her bag.
“The incident happened at about 8.20pm on Wednesday, December 16, and a member of the public came to her aid grabbing the offender, but unfortunately he made off empty-handed.”

Police are keen to speak to the member of the public, while anyone else who may have information is urged to contact 101, quoting occurrence 2000455421.
