Weather warning for snow and ice in place today
This is the weather forecast for Tuesday from the Met Office:
Showers continue through the morning, with a further spell sweeping across the east of the country in the afternoon. Through the afternoon, most areas turn dry, but it generally looks to remain cloudy throughout. Feeling cold. Maximum temperature 7 °C.
A weather warning for snow and ice is in place for the east of the country. The weather warning states:
Ice is likely to form on untreated surfaces during Monday night, especially where showers move well inland. Some of the showers will be wintry and could produce 2 to 5 cm lying snow across central and southern Scotland, and above 250 metres elsewhere, mostly over the Pennines and North York Moors where up to 10 cm is possible. Elsewhere, most places will see little or no snow, but a slight covering of a centimetre or so is possible in a few places.
