Two people charged after Barry disturbance which saw police officer fire Taser

Two people have been charged and are due to appear in court next month after police were called to reports of an disturbance in Barry on Saturday, August 8.

South Wales Police was called to an alleged domestic incident on Main Street shortly after 5pm.

Video footage later emerged showing a police officer embroiled in a dispute involving several people in which he used a Taser.

A police statement said the first officer on the scene had cause to discharge a Taser after “two people failed to comply with instructions and attempts at intervention”.

A man and woman have now been charged.

Kyle Anthony Butts, 35, from Barry, has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and using threatening and abusive behaviour.

Leanne Perrett, 35, also from Barry, has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and attempted theft.

Both have been released on police bail and are due to appear in Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on September 11.
