Everybody knows that in order to make it in politics you need to have naked ambition.
But one group campaigning ahead of the upcoming Senedd election on Thursday (May 6) have taken that quality quite literally.
Flyers for the Welsh Nude and Proud Party have been popping through the letter boxes of residents on the west side of Newport and they’ve proved to be quite an eye opener.
The pamphlets feature a naked man purporting to be called Dennis Smith – thankfully pictured from the waist up only – along with the slogans ‘Say ‘yes’ to no clothes’ and ‘Better together nude’.
“We believe in Newport and think it’s a wonderful place,” it reads, adding, “We want to celebrate it and make much need improvements,”
These include ‘electric buses fitted with wipe down seats as standard’, more ‘nude spaces’ in the city, cleaner air and a crack down on crime.
“Statistics have shown that naked men are almost 99 times less likely to be mugged,” states one the card’s election pledges.
And the party’s starkers stance has certainly caused a stir on social media.
“Was Dennis nude when he posted this thru the letterbox?” asked Karoline Denisha on Twitter
“If it gains Wales independence, I’ll let grandpa dingle his dangle in the garden,” added Lily M.
Another failed to see the funny side, however, tweeting, “Look mate, it’s still indecent exposure, having a manifesto means nothing.”

Nevertheless, despite getting some hot under the collar, the whole thing seems to be an elaborate hoax as there’s no candidate for the Welsh Nude & Proud Party listed as standing in the Senedd election.
Also, both the website and email address listed on its literature are unreachable.
So it seems voters will have to wait a while longer when it comes to true transparency in politics.
