Top 8 habits that annoy motorists at petrol stations
Obstructing two pumps
Sloppy parking can leave the neighbouring pump inaccessible and can be incredibly frustrating for other drivers.
Using the wrong lane
Some motorists use the lane with the wrong fuel or payment type. This can cause tension to build until the offending driver moves into the correct lane.
It only takes a moment of absent thought to forget which side your fuel cap is on.
However, if you’re battling with the hose and trying to make it stretch to the other side, you’re likely to get some funny looks and some frustrated glances.
Using disposable gloves
Hygiene is important and no-one wants to touch a dirty pump handle.
However, if you’re wasting precious minutes trying to pull a glove onto your hand then you’re going to annoy the motorists queuing behind you.
Rounding up the price
It’s satisfying to round your petrol bill up to the nearest pound, but if you’re going to spend minutes trying to do this then you’re not going to be popular at the petrol station.
Weekly shop before paying
There’s a time and a place to do a spot of leisurely shopping and the petrol station isn’t one of them.
Another driver could be waiting for their turn to use the pump and they won’t be pleased to see you heading back to the car with an armful of shopping.
Ambling back to the car
Stunning as the petrol station scenery may be, now isn’t the time to take in the views and amble back to your car.
Your fellow drivers will want you to hurry back to your vehicle so they can take their turn.
Playing with your phone before leaving
If you need to check your phone, or adjust the radio, find a safe and quiet place to do this away from the petrol pump. The motorists behind you will be grateful for your consideration
