When the Guardian’s international environment editor, Jonathan Watts, collapsed for the duration of a game of football in a London park past year, he imagined he was dying. He felt his entire body shutting down as medics rushed him to hospital, in which he was supplied emergency defibrillator therapy to shock his heart again to life.

He describes the experience to Anushka Asthana, not in phrases of terror but with a feeling of calmness and wonder. Now in recovery, he remembers the extraordinary care he obtained from these who addressed him in the midst of a pandemic. 5 months on, Watts is philosophical about the episode and its effects on his personal life and these who really like him. As a freshly married gentleman, he resolves to rebalance his priorities and do the job on what it suggests to dwell a great life
