Police have upped their patrols at a Swansea park after a man was seen “acting suspiciously” and making “lewd remarks” at female joggers.

Officers from South Wales Police have been patrolling Penllergaer Park in recent days after receiving reports about the man’s behaviour.

The force explained that officers arrived at the park following an initial report but the man could not be found.

A tweet shared on the South Wales Police Swansea account on Monday, March 1, read: “Patrols have been conducted at Penllergaer Park this morning due to recent reports of a male hanging around in the area making lewd remarks at female joggers.”

The incident comes after 10 women and two teenagers, aged 13 and 15, were sexually assaulted in two days in parks and beauty spots across Swansea last month.

The offences took place at Singleton Park, Brynmill Park, Bishopston Road in Bishopston, Oakwood Road in Brynmill, Pennard Road, Sketty Lane, Swansea seafront, and Rhyddings Terrace in Brynmill.

Oliver James Smith has admitted to sexually assaulting them whilst riding his bicycle around Swansea, calling them derogatory names as he did so.

The 27-year-old, of Glanbrydan Avenue in Uplands, is due to appear before Swansea Crown Court for sentencing on March 15.
