From a seemingly unattainable place, Nahaarr has swooped to acquire the Ayr Gold Cup under an influenced Tom Marquand, who is getting every Saturday punter’s favourite jockey. Marquand, who landed the St Leger previous weekend, was radiating annoyance with his body language at midway, when Nahaarr could locate no way as a result of the pack of horses in front of him.
The pair lastly observed daylight with about 150 yards to operate, from which issue Nahaarr rocketed forwards. To the joy of all those who hammered him down to seven-2 favourite for the cavalry cost, he collared Spanish City with potentially two strides to spare.
Marquand, who had in no way ridden a winner at Ayr just before, stated: “This lad astonished me, the way he picked up on that ground. I assume I have galloped up the back again of extra horses there than I ever have in my existence. He showed an outstanding flip of foot. He’s acquired that ideal mix of pace and means.”
It was a double on the working day for Marquand, as he also won the Doonside Cup on Addeybb, who would generally be competing in fairly more powerful organization. Both horses are educated by William Haggas and race in the yellow colours of Sheikh Ahmed al-Maktoum.
