Man charged with assaulting emergency worker at Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport

A man has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker following an incident at a city hospital.

Gwent Police said they received a report of criminal damage at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport at about 2am on Thursday.

A 26-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker, criminal damage, driving a motor vehicle dangerously and driving while unfit.

He was later charged with two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker, criminal damage, driving a motor vehicle dangerously and failure to provide a specimen.

Gwent Police said the man has been remanded in custody.
