A man has been jailed after his “persistent” offending culminated in him urinating outside a dentist’s surgery in a Welsh town and then being abusive towards the woman who caught him.

On Wednesday (June 24), officers from Dyfed-Powys Police were called to Brynteg Terrace in the centre of Ammanford, Carmarthenshire.

There, John David James, aged 67, was urinating in public, against the wall of a dental surgery.

He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of a public order offence and for three breaches of a previously served community protection notice.

That notice prohibited James from being drunk in a public place in Llandybie, from being involved in any behaviour that includes abusive, insulting or threatening words towards others, and being within five miles of Llanydbie Parish Church.

It was not long until he breached the order.

“James is a persistent offender in the Ammanford area, and as a result of previous behaviour had been made the subject of a community protection notice,” said PC Stephen Morris, of Dyfed-Powys Police.

“He was seen sitting outside Llanydbie Parish Church on May 22, and on two occasions – on May 24 and June 14 – he has been abusive towards a member of the public, causing them to feel threatened.

“On June 24, not only was he seen urinating in public, but he was aggressive towards the witness, making her feel very uncomfortable. Thanks to the proactive approach taken between the Ammanford Neighbourhood Policing Team and response team, we secured four charges against James that day.”

Jones, of Tir y Plas, Llandybie, appeared at Swansea Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (June 25).

Admitting a public order offence and three breaches of his community protection notice, he was sentenced to eight weeks in prison.
