A man arrested following a road traffic collision has been charged with attempted murder.
Emergency services were called to High Street, Blaina, on January 2, amid reports of an incident involving a car and a pedestrian.
It has since been confirmed that Ieuan Ward, 25, of Caerwys House, Brynteg Road, Blaina, was charged in connection with the incident and appeared in Newport Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, January 4.
No pleas were entered during the brief hearing, which saw Ward being remanded into custody ahead his next court appearance.
Following the collision, a 33-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. He is believed to be in a stable condition.
In the meantime, Gwent Police is continuing to appeal for information.
A force spokeswoman said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed or may have information about this incident to come forward.”
