A three-year-old twin boy died after appearing “malnourished” at his family home, an inquest has heard.
A police investigation is under way after the death of Taiwo Abubaker at his Cardiff home on June 29.
During an inquest opening held on Monday it was heard the child, who was born in Nigeria, appeared “malnourished” at his home in Cwmdare Street in the Cathays area.
He was last seen three weeks before his death by a family friend who reported their concerns to the police.
The child was formally identified by his father before a post-mortem examination was carried out by pathologist Stephen Leadbeatter at the University Hospital of Wales. No provisional cause of death was given during the brief hearing.
Senior coroner Graeme Hughes said a South Wales Police investigation remains under way into the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
The inquest was adjourned with no date set for its conclusion.
