GCSE exams for English literature, Welsh literature, and ICT due to take place in January have been cancelled, Qualifications Wales has announced.
It has already been announced by education minister Kirsty Williams that GCSE, AS- and A-level exams will not take place next summer. But now it has also been confirmed the winter exams will not go ahead either.
However other planned assessments for January in new health and social care and childcare, Skills Challenge Certificate, and GCSE re-sits in home economics and health and social care will take place.
A statement on behalf of regulator Qualifications Wales on Tuesday announced the decision and said non-examination assessments will continue to be used.
Chief executive Philip Blaker said: “We know that learners and teachers want to hear about these decisions as quickly as possible. So, having listened to the views expressed in the Design and Delivery Advisory Group, we have made these early decisions now. Our priority remains fairness to learners past present and future.”
