Police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old British girl in New York.
It was revealed today that the young woman died after falling ill at the Holiday Inn Express in Midtown, Manhattan, last Thursday morning.
Bristol Grammar School said one of its pupils had died on a school trip in New York, reports BristolLive .
She is reported to have been found unconscious at the hotel before being taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A spokesman for the NYPD said: “The Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death and the investigation is ongoing.”
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are talking with the US authorities and are providing support to the family.”
In a statement, Bristol Grammar School said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm the death in New York of one of our Sixth Form pupils, which occurred on Thursday 19 December while they were on a school trip.
“We are all devastated by the news and our thoughts are with their family and friends during this extremely difficult time.
“Our pupils, their parents and our staff have been informed and we are providing support to all those who have been affected by this news.
“We have opened a book of condolence and we will consider further remembrance with the family’s support in the New Year.
“We would ask the media to respect the privacy of the family and our community while we grieve.”
