Back to the Future The Musical is coming to the UK in 2020.

The live stage adaption of the 80s cult classic will debut at Manchester’s Palace Theatre.

Fans will get the chance to see it for 12 weeks from February 20 to May 17 ahead of its West End run.

The newly announced cast includes Aidan Cutler as Biff Tannen, Courtney-Mae Briggs as Jennifer Parker, Will Haswell as Dave McFly and Emma Lloyd as Linda McFly.

They join previously announced Olly Dobson and Roger Bart in the lead roles of Marty McFly and Doc Brown. Plus Hugh Coles as George McFly, Rosanna Hyland as Lorraine Baines and Cedric Neal as Goldie Wilson.

The musical will be based on the film of the same name, which saw Michael J Fox take on the role of time-travelling teen Marty McFly alongside eccentric inventor Dr Emmett Brown.

Known for its time-bending plots and the iconic DeLorean, much of the film is set in 1955 as Marty battles to save his parents’ marriage and prevent himself being written from history entirely.

The stage version will use songs from the film including ‘The Power of Love’ by Johnny B Goode, alongside new music and lyrics written by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard.

Christopher Lloyd, who played Doc Brown, said: “Ever since Bob Gale told me about this, I’ve been eagerly anticipating it and, in particular, wondering what it will be like to hear Doc Brown sing.

“So I’m really looking forward to attending the opening in Manchester to experience our wonderful movie as a musical. I’m only sorry I don’t have a real time machine so that I could see it tomorrow!”.

The project has been six years in the making but Gale says, ‘the time is right’, as the film celebrates its 35th anniversary next year.

The musical will be directed by Tony Award-winning director John Rando (Urinetown, On the Town), alongside a multi Tony and Olivier Award-winning design, music and choreography team.

It follows in the foot steps of & Juliet, a musical which focuses on ‘what if’ Juliet hadn’t killed herself at the end of Shakespeare’s play, which also debuted in Manchester ahead of its West End run.
